Pleasant camping on the outskirts of Paris: Huttopia Versailles

If you want to visit Paris, you can consider a hotel or youth hostel. If the city trip is part of a longer holiday or the budget is on the low side, then a stay at a campsite can be considered. However, the reputation of big city campsites is not entirely positive, but Huttopia in Versailles, just outside the center of Paris, is a pleasant exception. Huttopia is an organization that manages a small number of campsites in France and Canada. These campsites are located in a natural environment, are comfortably furnished and focused on offering quality. Huttopia Versailles is a 5-minute drive from the world-famous palace, and borders the large Forêt de Porchefontaine. The campsite measures 4 hectares, has many pitches for tents, caravans and campers, but also offers various forms of rental accommodation such as log cabins, canadiens and gypsy wagons.

Accessibility

Most Dutch guests will reach the campsite via the Parisian ring road, the Boulevard Périphérique. to approach. The inner ring road, which has become a lot quieter after the completion of the A86, is left at the Porte Saint-Cloud exit, after which you can reach the campsite quite easily. The friendly and multilingual staff will take care of the formalities and show you a place. Reserving a spot is recommended, as this campsite is not only large, but also very popular.

Services

The layout of the site does not give you the feeling that you are on a large campsite. Due to the economical placement, one of the well-equipped and clean toilet facilities is always nearby. Children can splash in the pool at reception. The restaurant is also located there, where bread is available to order in the morning. There is a small supermarket, a grocer, a bakery and an ATM within walking distance of the campsite.
There is little traffic at the campsite itself, the site is surrounded by a quiet residential area, the forest and a sports park. Thanks to the tranquility and natural surroundings, this campsite forms a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of the big city.

To Paris

The fastest way to get to the center of Paris from the campsite is by train. The RER (the express train that connects the center with the suburbs) will take you under the Eiffel Tower in 20 minutes. The Porchefontaine and Viroflay Rive Gauche stations are within walking distance of the campsite . (multi-day) metro tickets can be purchased at both stations. These cards come in two variants:

  • zone 1 to 3: the entire center of Paris.
  • zone 1 to 5: the center and all suburbs.

Those traveling from Viroflay Rive Gauche, located in zone 3, can suffice with a ticket for zones 1 to 3. Travelers who choose Porchefontaine (zone 4) buy a much more expensive card for zones 1 to 5. Huttopia
Versailles is a pleasant, child-friendly and clean campsite that can serve as an excellent base for a visit to Paris and where, unlike many other city campsites, you can happily spend an afternoon or whole day in your tent. Anyone visiting the campsite on their way south will have access to the highways to the Alps, Atlantic coast, Pyrenees and the Cote dAzur from the campsite without any risk of congestion.
